Animal Law, Ethics and Enforcement

The six-credit Animal Law, Ethics and Enforcement microcredential provides an introduction to society’s duty of care to animals, and enforcement of laws regarding the treatment of animals.

This microcredential is for those who want to explore legal issues surrounding animal cruelty and work or volunteer to address this complicated issue, including but not limited to police, who must enforce the anti-cruelty laws, animal control officers, 动物福利, care or legal professionals and shelter staff.

学生s who complete this microcredential will be acquainted with the fundamental principles of animal law and ethics, and have a better understanding of New York State Law pertaining to the protection of animals and how to properly handle animal cruelty cases.

Upon the completion of this microcredential, students will be able to:

  • Articulate key animal law issues and their ethical implications and be able to evaluate the development of existing law and critically assess ways to improve these laws and their enforcement.
  • Interpret the meaning of animal cruelty and animal law as it applies to companion, 农场, wild and domesticated animals.
